What Are the Leading Causes of Metabolic Disorders?
Dear Thermalist Members!
It’s been a sunny weekend and a great one - I hope you enjoyed yours too. Today I’ll dive into metabolism to catch up on what actually causes a disorder - the imbalance.
Have you ever wondered what causes some people to develop diabetes? Or what leads to the development of obesity and cardiovascular disease? The answer lies in metabolic disorders.

So, let’s find out what metabolic disorders are:
What Are Metabolic Disorders?
Metabolic disorders disrupt normal metabolism, the process your body uses to convert food into energy. These disruptions can lead to an imbalance in energy production and storage, resulting in various health complications.
Common Metabolic Disorders
Some of the most common metabolic disorders include obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. I’ll have a look at each of them further.
Obesity: Characterized by excessive body fat, obesity is a significant risk factor for several other metabolic disorders. Genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors often cause it.
Diabetes: This chronic condition occurs when the body either cannot produce enough insulin (Type 1 diabetes) or cannot effectively use the insulin it produces (Type 2 diabetes). Both types lead to elevated blood sugar levels, which can cause severe health issues over time.
Metabolic Syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together and increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. It typically includes high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol levels.
So, what is the leading cause of these disorders? Is there anything that you should know? I’ll review that in the next section.
