Understanding Stress
Stress can impact both our mind and body. Some stress is actually beneficial, motivating us to accomplish daily tasks. However, when left unmanaged, chronic stress can have detrimental effects on our physical and mental health. Learning how to cope with stress effectively can reduce feeling overwhelmed and promote overall well-being.
It often manifests in emotional responses such as anxiety and irritability, making it difficult for us to relax. It can also lead to physical symptoms such as headaches, body aches, upset stomach, and sleep disturbances. In times of stress, we may experience changes in our eating habits - losing our appetite or overeating.
Moreover, long-term stress can worsen existing health issues and increase the likelihood of turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as alcohol, tobacco, or other substances. Additionally, stressful situations can trigger or aggravate mental health conditions like anxiety and depression, which may require professional assistance for proper management. In some cases, these mental health conditions may arise from prolonged exposure to persistent stressors that disrupt our daily functioning at work or school.
It is important to remember that everyone responds to stress differently. Each person has their coping mechanisms and experiences unique symptoms of stress.
Let's get to the bottom of this!
