What is Metabolism?
Before discussing slow metabolism specifically, let's first understand what metabolism is. As mentioned earlier, it refers to all the chemical processes in your body that keep you alive and functioning. These include breaking down food for energy, storing nutrients, eliminating waste products, and more.
Your basal metabolic rate is your body's energy to maintain basic functions while at rest. It's influenced by age, gender, body size and composition, and hormones.
Signs of Slow Metabolism
So, how do you know if you have a slow metabolism? While it can be difficult to determine without medical testing, some common signs may indicate your metabolism is slower than average. These include:
Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
Fatigue and low energy levels
Difficulty concentrating
Feeling cold more often than others around you
Irregular menstrual cycles (for women)
If these symptoms sound familiar, they could indicate slow metabolism. However, it's always best to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis.
